Research Projects of the Center


Austria Israel Relations since 1945

The Richard Koebner Centre is conducting a research project "Austria-Israel: Political and Cultural relations since 1945" in cooperation with The Institute for German History (Tel Aviv) and the institute for Contemporary History at the Leopold-Franzens University (Innsbruck).

Initially, the project includes mapping of all documentary materials concerning the two countries and societies. The research embraces all relevant archives and libraries, private and official. The final index of existing documents containing all aspects of the relations will serve as a basis for further research on the subject.

Concluding articles are in preparation.

"Deutsch-juedische Erinnerungskultur", 19th-20th Centuries

The Richard Koebner Centre in corporation with the Justus-Liebig University (Giessen) and as part of SFB 434 (Erinnerungskulturen) is conducting a research project: "German-Jewish collective memory".

This Project is conducted under the supervision of Prof. Moshe Zimmermann (Jerusalem) and Professor Jürgen Reulecke (Siegen). The Project aims on researching aspects in cultural life and collective memory patterns of German-Jews in Germany and after emigration to Palestine/Israel.

In this framework, the research period 2003-2006 is dedicated to deutsch-jüdische Jugendbewegungen.

The Research embraces all relevant archives and libraries, (private and official) interviews, biographies and films.

As part of the working activity the publication: Populäre Konstruktionen von Erinnerung - im deutschen Judentum und nach der Emigration is published (co Editors: Joachim Jacob and Yotam Hotam (Vanderhoeck u. Rüprecht, Tübingen, 2003) and the international Conference The Age of Youth: German Jewish Young Generation and Modern Time is in preparation.
